As the light of heaven is Divine truth, that light is also Divine wisdom and intelligence; therefore to be raised up into the light of heaven means the same as to be raised up into      intelligence and wisdom and enlightened. For this reason the angels have light in just the same degree as they have intelligence and wisdom. Because the light of heaven is Divine wisdom, in that light the character of everyone is recognized. The interiors of everyone lie open to view in his face just as they are, with not the least thing hidden. And interior angels love to have all things that pertain to them lying open, since they will nothing but good. It is otherwise with those beneath heaven, who do not will what is good, and for that reason fear greatly to be seen in the light of heaven. (Emanuel Swedenborg)

According to Swedenborg, angels that are now in Heaven are human beings of past generations who have realized their spiritual destiny.

Heaven is a kingdom of uses. And every angel is employed in the propagation and realization of Divine Love and Wisdom.

Some angels' function is to help human beings realize Divine Good and Truth.

Angels correspond with us through our thoughts and feelings.

We can recognize whether our thoughts and feelings originate in Heaven by their quality. Angels only communicate what is useful, wise and good.

Of course, angels can never force us to do anything. We are always free to will what we love and believe what we like. This is a fundamental law of the universe: the law of freedom.

Many people do not understand why a beneficent and all-powerful God would let all this evil be manifested on Earth.

Since the Earths in the universe are spiritual schools, the Lord lets evil be manifested so that we can see with our eyes what is in our hearts.

The Lord said: " You shall know them by their works." If you want to know what a person loves and believes, do not listen to what they say. Watch what they do in public and in secret. They may pretend to be respectful and noble in public but, in secret, they are manifesting what is in their heart and mind.

If we want our mind to rise into the Heavens of spiritual Light, we must begin by being truthful with our own self. There are no dark places or secrets in Heaven. Every one's heart and mind are open for all to see and every one's form, clothing, house and environment are a projection of his own inner being. On earth, we are able to hide our true loves and beliefs but in the spiritual world it is impossible.

There often is a big difference between the way we think we are and the way we are in reality. Once again, we should not listen to what we say about our own self and watch how we behave under different circumstances. We can brag about what we will do but it is what we do in the end that counts. What we do reflects our will. We may say that we believe in love and mercy but, if we are continually judging and accusing, we are lying to ourselves.
